(UNDATED) - February 11 is officially “211 Day” in recognition of the free, confidential, easy to remember phone number that connects residents to essential health and human services.
United Way 2-1-1 South Central Indiana services Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Jennings, Lawrence, Orange, Scott and Washington Counties.
Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the 211 call center is staffed by specialists to assist you with finding the resources to meet the needs of callers for things such as food, clothing, shelter, rent and utility assistance, and much more.
In 2013, our local 211 call center answered over 15,500 calls for help, and that number continues to grow as more people have access to this invaluable referral service.
Without 2-1-1, callers would make an average of eight (8) phone calls to different numbers before finding the services they need. 211 cuts through the red tape to save providers time and money, while helping residents connect with the resources they're looking for.
When natural disasters hit, 211 services increase in affected areas to serve as a clearinghouse of information for affected residents. When people are in crisis, it is nearly impossible to remember the telephone numbers to seek help. Instead, simply calling 211 can get survivors connected to partners who can provide help. This helps reduce non-emergency calls to 911.
