(BLOOMFIELD) - Individuals booked into the Greene County Jail can now make post bond by charging it on a credit card.
The Greene County Commissioners approved a proposal presented by the sheriff's department that will allow for bond payments through the GovPayNet.
GovPayNet processes credit, debit, and pre-paid debit card transactions for government agencies. These include payments to law enforcement agencies, courts, corrections facilities for such services as cash bail, deposits to inmate trust, telephone and commissary accounts; probation obligations; restitution payments; electronic monitoring fees; payment of traffic and criminal fines; court fees; towing and impound fees and records fees.
Sheriff's Department Major Mike Hasler says any bondable offense is eligible for the credit card service allowing inmates to go through the jail system more quickly easing overcrowding especially on the weekends when banks are not open.
Greene county will receive a percentage of the credit card transactions.
