(VALEENE) - Indiana State Police are investigating an early morning pursuit that began in Harrison County and ended in Orange County.
According to ISP Sergeant and Communication Officer Philip Hensley, troopers responded to a call at 1:59 a.m. after a report that Harrison County Sheriff's deputies were in pursuit of a black Honda Civic in Palmyra.
The pursuit continued west on U.S. 150 through Washington County and into Orange County where it reached Rego. The pursuit then continued south through numerous county roads and eventually ended on Valeene Road when the driver turned west at County Road 820 South and found it was a dead end road.
When the driver reached the end of the road the driver turned the vehicle around facing police.
The Harrison County deputy, pulled his weapon and ordered the driver out of the vehicle. That is when the driver began driving toward the officer. The deputy began firing his weapon, hitting two suspects inside the vehicle through the windshield.
Police say of those injured were men. A third occupant, a woman, was in the backseat. She was not injured.
The vehicle continued toward the deputy, striking him and throwing the officer onto the hood of his police car.
The deputy suffered injuries to his legs and back.
An Indiana Conservation Officer was behind the deputy, and blocked the car and ordered the occupants out of the vehicle.
They complied and were arrested without further incident.The woman was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail.
One of the vehicle's occupants suffered a wound to the abdomen. The second was shot in the hand. They were taken by ambulance to Indiana University Health Paoli Hospital. The man who had been shot in the abdomen then was airlifted to a Louisville hospital.
State Police investigators and crime scene technicians remain on the scene. Names of those involved in the incident are not being released at this time. Nor have specific charges been released.
