(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University is offering scholarships for veterans, active military service members and their spouses through a partnership with the Pat Tillman Foundation.
IU announced Monday that it is one of four new partners joining the foundation that honors former Arizona Cardinals defensive back Pat Tillman, who quit the NFL to join the military and died in action in Afghanistan in 2004.
The Tillman Military Scholars program is a supplement to the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
The scholarship covers study-related expenses, including tuition and fees, books and a living stipend for scholars who are pursuing undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate degrees as a full-time student.
The foundation has awarded more than $4.6 million in scholarships to 290 people since 2008. Last year 60 scholars were chosen from a field of more than 5,000 applicants.
