(BEDFORD) - A man was injured after he told police he “blacked out” and hit another vehicle and then crashed into a utility pole Thursday afternoon.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, 71-year-old Rannel Cheek was traveling west on Ind. 158 when he says he lost consciousness.
40-year-old Betsy Middleton was traveling east on Ind. 158 and as she crested the hill, she saw Cheek's 2000 Chevrolet Silverado cross the center line. Middleton swerved her 2007 Buick Rendezvous to avoid the collision, but Cheek's vehicle clipped her driver's side mirror.
Cheek's vehicle then ran off the road, hit a mailbox and then a utility pole.
Cheek complained of body pain and was taken to the hospital by an IU Health Hospital ambulance crew. Middleton was not injured during the incident.
Assisting at the scene were Indian Creek Vounteer Fire Department and the Bedford Fire Department extrication unit.
