(BEDFORD) - New optometrist is opening a clinic downtown.
Dr. Alison Atchison will open up shop in the former Taylor Fabrics Building at 1537 J Street and is in the process of remodeling the building.
Atchison approached the Bedford Historic Review Board this week seeking approval to make exterior changes to the building's facade that is within the city's historic district.
The board granted Atchison's request.
The Times-Mail reports that as part of the Stellar Communities project, some money will be available to help owners repair and refurbish the facades of downtown buildings. The city's community development director Marla Jones is negotiating with an architectural firm to get that done and is hoping to have things in place so the facade project can begin next year.
Until then, Atchison told the board she plans to put up a temporary vinyl sign over the entrance of the building and to replace three doors in the front of the building and one in the back. She plans to do more facade work during the Stellar project.
