(BROWNSTOWN) - Three people were arrested after police were called about a possible hostage situation in northern Brown County on Tuesday.
Brown County officers received a call from a resident In the 4000 block of Locust Grove Drive reporting that the caller's son had texted him claiming he was being held hostage by two people and that they were headed to house.
When the caller's son showed up with two other people, the homeowner greeted them armed with a gun. The homeowner ordered the people to the ground. At first they refused, but then after the homeowner fired a couple of shots in the air they dropped to the ground. The homeowner held them at gun point until police arrived.
Officers arrested 25-year-old John Miller of Freetown, 18-year-old Samantha Artis of Columbus and the homeowner's son, 20-year-old Jacob Phillips. All three were charged with receiving stolen property.
Police determined that Phillips was not being held hostage, but that the three had been with each other all night stealing items from multiple Walmart stores in the area. Officers recovered many of the stolen items in the vehicle.
