(MITCHELL) - Three people were hurt in a two-vehicle collision in Mitchell Monday morning.
According to a Mitchell Police report, 68-year-old James Starr, of Bedford, suffered several fractures in the accident. His passenger 65-year-old Helen Cooper, of Mitchell, complained of stomach pain.
Cooper was transported to the soccer field next to Mitchell High School where an Air-Evac helicopter landed and then transported her to a Louisville Hospital.
Starr was taken by ambulance to a Bedford Hospital and then flown to an Indianapolis Hospital.
The driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash, 31-year-old Willard J. Sullivan of Mitchell, suffered a fracture leg. He was taken by ambulance to a Bedford Hospital.
According to police, Starr was traveling south on Third Street when he failed to stop his 1989 Chevrolet Celebrity at the stop sign. The Celebrity collided with Sullivan's 2003 Nissan XTerra which was traveling west on Frank Street.
Police say Starr failed to yield the right of way and was also speeding.
The collision sent Starr's vehicle spinning and Sullivan's SUV went off the road way. The SUV, drove over a street sign, then hit the porch post of a house at 302 Frank Street, went through shrubs and then hit the corner of the home. The SUV continued to travel west before stopping on the tree plat.
