(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he became upset with another man who was paying too much attention to his girlfriend and punched him in the face.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called to an apartment at 18th and O streets at 10:33 p.m. Saturday after a report of a fight.
When officers arrived they found a man on the floor bleeding from his face.
Another man in the apartment told police that the man responsible for the injuries had fled.
A woman, who was also injured trying to break up the fight, told police that 27-year-old Raymond Wachman had been at the apartment with his girlfriend and everyone was having a good time playing games, when Wachman became upset because the man he punched was showing attention to Wachman's girlfriend.
Wachman punched the man in the face several times and when he fell to the floor, he continued to punch the man. Witnesses said Wachman fled the apartment following the altercation.
Officers went to Wachman's apartment and couldn't find him.
Police then received a call from the victims and were told Wachman was hiding in his neighbor's apartment. Officers knocked on the apartment door and the occupant said Wachman was not there. Officers were then given permission to search the apartment and found Wachman hiding in a closet.
"The occupant told officers that Mr. Wachman had threatened them if they wouldn't hide him from police he would harm them," Parsley says.
Officers arrested Wachman, but as they were putting him in handcuffs, he became combative and attempted to kick both officers.
Wachman was charged with resisting arrest and battery and taken to jail.
