(BEDFORD) - The City of Bedford will be hiring a police officer.
A few years ago, because of budget cuts, the department could not hire officers to replace those that retired or left the force for other positions. That left the department short two officers. Now one of those positions will be filled.
The new officers will conduct normal patrols and an officer currently on the force will be assigned as a full-time narcotics officer.
The city council Tuesday night voted to approve an additional appropriation for the new officers salary of $35,585, with an additional $6,230 to cover the city's share of medical insurance, for unemployment insurance, $7,400 for the retirement fund and $500 in FICA/Medicare costs.
