(BEDFORD) - Contracts for North Lawrence Community School bus drivers will be presented for school board approval during the April 24 board meeting.
The board on Thursday voted to authorize bid specifications for a three-year contract period and approved a request from Director of Transportation Darren Waggoner to begin the process of advertising and receiving bus contracts so he can make recommendations to the board on April 24.
One provision of the contract is that any bus driver who is at least 72 years old during the time of the active bus contract period must have a physical examination completed by the corporation's health clinic each year.
Waggoner says there is no age limit for drivers, but the corporation wants to make sure they are healthy. Another provision stipulates that all school buses and equipment at the start of the contract must be 1997 or newer buses and must meet or exceed applicable Indiana minimum standards and specifications for school buses.
Buses also must meet Indiana State Police safety inspection standards.
Bid notices will be advertised on Wednesday and March 26 and the bids must be delivered to the NL transportation office by April 10.
