(BLOOMFIELD) - The Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School NJROTC Unit traveled to Columbus, Ohio on March 14 to participate in the regional Junior Reserve Officers Training Area 3 event.
The Greene County Daily World reports that the Unit placed 5th overall and second in the state of Indiana.
Forty-three NJROTC units from Region 3 participated in the event. Bloomfield faced tough challenges from NJROTC units from eighteen 3A and 4A schools in the event. The Unit's 5th place overall placement is the highest in the units history.
The Area 3 event began on March 14 with academic and physical fitness portions of the competition. The military drill portion of the Area 3 event was held on March 15.
The Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. ROTC Unit had several strong individual and unit performances including:
3rd place in the Uniform and Military knowledge led by Cadet Abigail Query.
3rd place in Unarmed Regulation Drill event led by Cadet Jocelyn Gadberry.
4th place in the Armed Exhibition Drill event led by Cadet Richard Lifford's recently developed brand new routine.
4th place in the Physical Fitness event led by Cadet James Whayne.
Cadet Richard Lifford finished 6th overall among male participants in the male division with 151 competitors.
Cadet Madelyn Connor finished 7th overall in the female cadenced push-ups.
Cadet Richard Lifford finished 1st overall in the Armed Knockout standings with 180 competitors.
Cadet Mercedes Wilcox finished 10th overall in the Unarmed Knockout with 330 competitors.
Cadet Bart Query finished 11th overall in both Armed Knockout and Unarmed Knockout standings.
The Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School NJROTC competition team consisted of the following: Cadet Stephen Bond,Cadet Mary Burch, Cadet John Cluver, Cadet Madelyn Connor , Cadet Tara Empson, Cadet Jocelyn Gadberry, Cadet Grant Gerni, Cadet Richard Lifford, Cadet Abigail Query, Cadet Bart Query, Cadet Kylie Roach, Cadet Shanae Spinks (Linton-Stockton High School student), Cadet Jacob Swango, Cadet Kyle Vaught, Cadet James Whayne, Cadet Mercedes Wilcox, and Cadet Kristen Wright.
