(LINTON) - A convicted felon who is prohibited from having firearms is accused of stealing guns from a family member.
Thirty two-year-old Joseph Gibson, of Linton was arrested on warrants for theft, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
In November Greene County Police were called after a man reported his guns were stolen. The man told police that Gibson went to his home and told the caller's son that he was going to take the guns to repair them.
Gibson is accused of taking four guns and shotgun shells from the home.
In January police spoke to Gibson, who denied taking the weapons. But he changed his story and admitted to taking a .22 rifle, which he says he had someone purchase for him. But then Gibson allegedly changed his story again and admitted to stealing the four weapons from the home.
Gibson told police he stole the firearms because he needed money.
He told police two of the weapons had been sold and the other two were with a friend who was trying to sell them. Gibson told police he could get the guns back and when he did he would contact police.
That never happened and a warrant was issued for his arrest on Friday.
