(UNDATED) - Students in grades 3 through 8th at North Lawrence And Mitchell schools will begin ISTEP testing today.
Testing will continue throughout the week.
The Indiana Department of Education, in mid-February, authorized a three-week period, from March 3 to March 21, for the testing. The time frame was extended because of the number of days school has been canceled across the state because of bad weather.
Mark Vice, North Lawrence director of curriculum says most of the testing will be done during morning hours, but some will have to be done in the afternoon.
Phil Storm, assistant superintendent of Mitchell Community School says the test is in a written format and typically given over a two-to three-day window, depending on grade level.
The first day of testing will consist of a written math assessment and language arts writing. The second day is a language arts session. Days three will consist of science for grades fourth and sixth and social studies of grades five and seven.
School officials are asking parents to help prepare students for the testing - see they get plenty of sleep and a good breakfast each morning prior to testing.
