(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig is warning residents about a scam where the caller claims to be with the sheriff’s department.
"We have received numerous complaints today about residents receiving calls from someone claiming they are with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department," Craig says. "They claim they are calling to resolve criminal issues. This is a scam."
Craig says officers will not call residents to resolve a criminal issue.
"The caller wants the resident to call a number and give that person personal credit or debit card information," Craig says.
Craig warns residents not to give out any personal information to the caller.
"One woman reported they had left a message on her answering machine and wanted her to return the call - Don't it is a scam," Craig says.
