(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after a couple came home and found a strange man sleeping on their couch.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, the couple arrived at 3:51 a.m. Sunday to find the front door of their home in the 2000 block of 12th Street standing open. When they entered the home they found a man they did not know sleeping on the couch.
"While the male watched the man sleeping, the wife dialed 911," Parsley says. "When officers arrived they woke the man who told officer he didn't know how he got into the house or how long he had been there."
Parsley says 50-year-old Charles Rittenhouse was intoxicated.
Police found medication in Rittenhouse's pocket that he had taken from the home. The couple did not file theft charges against Rittenhouse.
Police did charged him with residential entry and he was wanted on a warrant for operating a vehicle while intoxicated from at 2013 incident.
