(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell Marlins swim team will have to pay an outstanding bill for lifeguard services before they can use the Mitchell City Pool this year for practices and swim meets.
Clerk-Treasurer George James says the city has an agreement with the swim club to use the pool free of charge from the end of May to about mid-July as long as they pay the hourly rate for lifeguards to work during meets.
The Times-Mail reports that James told members of the Board of Works that the club still owes nearly $300 from the 2013 season. James has attempted to contact Marlins officials numerous times without success.
James asked board members to not let the swim team to use the pool until that outstanding bill is paid and that from now on the team must pay on a meet-to meet basis so this doesn't happen again. The board members agreed.
Mayor Gary Pruett says more attempts will be made before swim season to obtain the debt.
