(LYONS) - An Oolitic man died this morning after a two-vehicle crash at 6:20 a.m. this morning on State Road 67, just north of Lyons.
26-year-old Dakota Burnette, who suffered head and internal injuries was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Indiana State Police Master Trooper Jon G. Yung,Burnette was traveling southwest on State Rd. 67. For some unknown reason, Burnette's vehicle traveled left of center sideswiping the semi tractor and continuing until striking the left tandem axles of a 2001 Freightliner semi tractor-trailer, driven by 44-year-old Timothy D. Stines, of Bedford.
"After the collision, Burnette's vehicle spun partially off the west side of the highway facing northeast. Stine's vehicle came to a stop with the tractor-trailer partially blocking the southbound lane," Trooper Yung wrote in his report.
Burnette and his passenger 40-year-old Robert Luedeman, of Norman, had to freed from the van.
Stines was not injured.
Luedeman was taken by Greene County Ambulance to Greene County General Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The roadway was closed to traffic about 7:30 a.m. and continued to be closed into the afternoon while personnel attempted to off load the trailer and remove it from the scene, according to Yung.
Assisting at the scene were Grant-Fairplay Township (Switz City), Lyons-Washington Township and Linton City FD assisted at the scene along with ISP Trooper Eric Nash, Greene County Sheriff's Department Deputy Bobby Pierce, Lyons Town Marshall Ron Sparks and Greene County Ambulance Service.
