(ORLEANS) - Orange County and Orleans town officials are supporting an effort to bring a solar energy plant to Orange County.
The Aurora Group, a solar energy developer out of Louisville says the proposed solar plant would require a 20 year lease on up to 20 acres of land.
The power generated would flow through the Duke Energy power grid at the Orleans Substation.
A 5 mega-watt system would cost about 9 million dollars and would employ at least 2 long term positions and provide more than 50 construction jobs for up to a year.
Duke Energy is expected to narrow down its list of possible locations by July 18th, with a final selection on October 17th.
