(FRENCH LICK) - A woman and man are behind bars after police seize more than $29,000 in meth.
According to police 32-year-old Nicole Gehl of French Lick and 39-year-old Chad Wininger of Dubois are suspected of dealing meth in Lawrence, Orange and Crawford counties.
Police say after investigating a report of a stolen car, the investigation led them to the home of Gehl on Tuesday morning.
Officers, armed with a search warrant, discovered approximately 10 1/2 ounces of crystal meth, drug paraphernalia and confiscated $1,000 in cash.
Police believe the Mexican meth came from Terre Haute.
With the help of the Lawrence County Police Department and other agencies, Orange County authorities have been investigating Gehl's alleged drug activities for the past several weeks.
At about 5 p.m. Monday, Gehl reported her 2010 Dodge Avenger had been stolen. She told police she believed Richard Dye of Indianapolis was responsible.
Four hours later, Orange County Deputy Lloyd Tharp found a vehicle matching that description on State Road 145. Dye was passed out on the front seat. He was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail on initial charges of public intoxication and auto theft.
During a search of the vehicle police found about 4 grams of meth.
That is when officers asked for a warrant to search Gehl's home.
In addition to information from the Lawrence County Police Department, Orange County officers were assisted by the Indiana State Police, officers from the West Baden Springs and French Lick police departments, and a police dog from the Paoli Police Department, assisted at the crime scene.
The case is still under investigation.
