(BEDFORD) - The United Way of South Central Indiana annual dinner is tonight at Spring Mill Inn’s Lakeview Room.
Philip Gulley, author, speaker and Quaker pastor, is the featured speaker. Social time begins at 5:30 and the dinner at 6 p.m. Cost to attend is $25.
United Way Executive Director Lorri Hamer announced $160,000 will be allocated in 2014. That's up from $123,050 given to agencies last year.
The money will be divided among 13 agencies and the United Way's Kindergarten Countdown program.
The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County received nearly $67,000 for their after-school tutoring programs. Part of those funds will be used to sustain the club's current tutoring program for elementary students and the rest will be used to fund a pilot program for middle school students at Oolitic and Shawswick middle schools. The money will fund a teacher and an aide to provide after-school assistance for up to 30 children at each school.The program will begin next August.
Bertha's Mission, will receive $5,000. Janice Nickoe, who heads the all-volunteer soup kitchen says the money will be used to purchase food, equipment and other expenses. The mission feeds 40 to 60 people a day, three days a week.
Lawrence InterFaith Endeavor received $16,500 which will be used for food needs and to pay rent and utilities.

Kindergarten Countdown - United Way of South Central Indiana: $1,200
