(GUTHRIE) - A Bedford man was hospitalized after he flipped his ATV Saturday night on private property off McIntyre Road.
According to Indiana Conservation Officer Jim Schreck, 42-year-old Dan Johns was operating the ATV in a field when he struck a ditch causing the ATV to flip and then roll, landing on top of him.
Johns complained of shoulder, rib and back pain. He was taken by ambulance to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital for treatment.
Johns was not wearing a helmet or safety equipment during the incident. Conservation officers strongly encourage all riders to always wear a helmet and necessary safety equipment when operating an ATV.
Assisting at the scene were an IU Health Hospital ambulance and Guthrie Township Volunteer Fire Department.
