(BLOOMFIELD) - A rural Bloomfield man is believed to have drowned after he slipped and fell into a swollen creek on his property.
Friends found 62-year-old James L. Garten in Bogard Creek on his property, where Bogard Creek flows on U.S. 231 south of Bloomfield.
Greene County Coroner Sherri Wilson says Gartner was found in two to three feet of water in the flood-swollen creek in Taylor Township Tuesday morning.
Wilson says no foul play is suspected and that it looks like Garten may have been walking along the creek bank and simply fell into the water.
Garten's body was found about 11:30 a.m. by two close friends, Terry and Cynthia Feutz, who had come to check on him found him in the water and pulled him from the creek.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed by forensic pathologist Dr. Roland Kohr today at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
Greene County Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw and Greene County Sheriff's Department Detective George Dallaire were called to the scene, along with two Indiana State Police troopers.
