(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington mother is facing charges after leaving her young children home alone while she went out dancing.
25-year-old Marti Lee Rodman was in Indianapolis partying when her three-year-old daughter was found alone on her bike at 1:30 a.m. Not just a house away or a block away, but a quarter-mile away from her home.
Marti Lee Rodman faces two charges of neglect. She has no criminal priors, police say.
"What even surprises us more that she went dancing and left those kids alone," said neighbor Dan Arthur.
Bloomington police took the three-year-old and her bike home and found her five-year-old sister asleep. But they could not find her mother.
"Apparently, the children were hungry and one of the officers took it upon himself to make them a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to tide them over," says Bloomington Police Capt. Joe Qualters.
The girls' mother did get home around 4:30 a.m. and admitted to leaving the children alone.
Qualters says Rodman left at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, and thought the children would sleep through the night. Qualters says a number of things could of happened to the children while Rodman was gone.
