(JASONVILLE) - A Jasonville man was arrested early Monday morning after he allegedly chewed up a baggie filled with bath salts in an attempt to avoid arrest.
Police were called to Shakamak Good Samaritan Nursing Home are a report of a suspicious car in the employee parking lot.
When police arrived at 1 a.m. they found 31-year-old Dreke Fulford and another person sitting in the vehicle.
When Fulford saw police he immediately took something from his lap and put it in the front pocket of his hooded sweatshirt. When police ordered Fulford out of the car, he put the item in his mouth and began chewing it up.
Officer Andrew Duguay had to fight with Fulford in order to keep him from swallowing the item, which turned out to be a plastic baggie. Fulford continued to fight with police while they had him on the ground and were attempting to handcuff him.
Fulford allegedly admitted that he had put a baggie of bath salts in his mouth and chewed it up so that it could not be used as evidence against him. He also told police that the woman who was in the car with him knew nothing about the drug.
Fulford was arrested on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement and obstruction of justice. His bond was set at $5,000 with an optional amount of $500 and he was released from the Greene County Jail Monday.
