(MITCHELL) - The 44th annual Mitchell High School academic banquet honored 31 members of the Class of 2014 who have maintained a 3.5 grade-point average or higher during their four years of high school.
The 31 students were recognized by Mitchell High School Principal Sean Vandeventer who presented each student with a certificate.
Those honored included Zakry Brooking, Mia Burton, William Concannon, Blake Daugherty, Alyssa Duncan, Travis Duncan, Jamie Durbin, Jarod England, Hope Fortner, James Gammon, Alyssa Gardner, Carly Goodman, Joshua Hack, Alaina Hall, Stewart Hamilton, Haley Heshelman, Lucas Jakub, Lindsey May, Makenzie May, Angela Moody, Whitney Mosier, Ian Payne, Patel, Christopher Phelps, Logan Quaas, Alexander Speer, Jenna Speer, Samantha Sexton, Sydney Tedrow, Max Uebelhoer and Tyler Wright.
The featured speaker for the event was Andy Fields, a member of the MHS Class of 1995, who spoke about the need to take something positive from each life event, even when the opportunity that comes is perceived as something negative. Fields, who has a bachelor's degree from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, returned to Mitchell after graduating college to raise his family. He now works at Crane.
Musical entertainment was provided by Ellis Fisher and Hank Wintczak during the buffet meal at Spring Mill Inn in Spring Mill State Park. The master of ceremonies for the evening was Minal Patel, vice president of the National Honor Society, and member of the Class of 2014.
Opening and closing remarks were given by Vandeventer, and Danny Reynolds, MHS assistant principal, introduced each honoree.
