(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University officials hope a new smart phone app will reduce the amount of electricity used on campus.
The app will alert students when energy use on campus exceeds 31,000 kilowatts. The app is easy to use and color-coded.
According to IU Energy Analyst Erica Steinfeltt, green represents a low amount of energy use, yellow is the next step and at red students are using more than 31,000 kilowatts, what officials consider a high amount.
Officials say by making students more conscious of their energy use, they are hoping to reduce the $24 million the university pays on electricity a year.
