(UNDATED) - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces rising waters have caused the closure of roads in the Vincennes District.
The closures will remain in effect until waters recede. The following sections of roadway have either been closed or INDOT is advising motorists to use caution around these areas of high water:
Crawford County
**NEW**SR 237, from I-64 (Sulphur) to SR 64 (English)
Daviess & Pike Counties
**NEW**SR 257, from US 50 (Washington) to SR 356 (Otwell)
Martin & Lawrence Counties
SR 450, from US 50 (Shoals) to SR 158 (Bedford)
Orange County
**NEW**SR 56, from SR 145 (French Lick) to US 150 (West Baden)
**NEW**US 150, from SR 56 (West Baden) to SR 37 (Paoli)
Orange & Washington Counties
**NEW**SR 337, from SR 37 (Livonia) to SR 56 (Livonia)
Perry & Dubois Counties
**NEW**SR 145, from I-64 (Siberia) to SR 64 (Birdseye)
Spencer County
**NEW**SR 62, from SR 162 (Gentryville) to US 231 (Dale)
**NEW**SR 62, from SR 145 (Siberia) to SR 545 (St. Meinrad)
**NEW**SR 545, from SR 62 (St. Meinrad) to SR 66 (Troy)
When encountering a flooded roadway, INDOT urges drivers to turn around and not drive through standing water. According to the National Weather Service, most flooding deaths occur in automobiles. Six inches of standing water is enough to cause passenger cars to stall and a foot of water will float many vehicles.
