(JACKSON CO.) - Two people were arrested on gun and drug charges in Jackson County Sunday night.
According to Sheriff Mike Carothers, a deputy stopped a van after the driver failed to use her turn signal and then shut off their headlights on county Road 400 East and State Road 258.
The driver, 30-year-old Dawn Brewer, was wanted on a warrant for a probation violation and was arrested. While police were speaking to her passenger 32-year-old Joshua Brewer, they noticed a handgun in the vehicle.
When they asked about the gun, Brewer attempted to flee. There was a struggle with three deputies and were able to subdue Brewer after using a taser. One deputy suffered minor injuries during the struggle.
Deputies searched the car and recovered a 9mm handgun, found crystal meth, drug paraphernalia and an altered LP tank believed to transport anhydrous ammonia.
While being booked into jail a jail officers found almost a gram of meth on Joshua Brewer. Police say Brewer was attempting to hide the drug from police.
Dawn Brewer is facing preliminary charges of possession of meth, drug paraphernalia and a syringe and possession of a handgun without a license, conspiracy to commit theft and a Bartholomew County warrant for a probation violation.
Joshua Brewer is facing charges of resisting law enforcement, possession of marijuana and meth, conspiracy to commit theft, battery on a law enforcement officer causing injury and trafficking with an inmate.
