Last updated on Tuesday, May 6, 2014

(BEDFORD) - Veterans Affairs Officer Brad Baugh and Intern Aubry Foddrill thanked the Lawrence County commissioners for their support in allowing her to intern at the county’s Veterans Service Office.

Foddrill, a Mitchell High School senior, began her internship in late 2013. She told the commissioners she has witnessed the daily and self sacrifice of veterans.

"The Veterans who answered this nation's call during its hour of need, serving in such diverse places as the skies over Europe, the frozen tundra of Korea, the rice patties of Vietnam, as well as in the scorching Deserts of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan," Bough says. "With an age difference of more than 70 years between the Veterans of the different combat periods, Aubry's grasps and understands each combat era's unique problems are superb."

Foddrill has assisted many Vietnam vets, who have been exposed to the deadly herbicide Agent Orange are suffering from a myriad of diseases associated with their exposure such as Chronic B-cell leukemia, Type 2 diabetes, Ischemic heart disease, lung cancer and Parkinson's Disease to name a few.

"Aubrey is helping veterans by passing along information as she meets with them and their families even when she is not in the office," Baugh says. "She is also educating her friends and fellow students about these diseases caused by the Veterans exposure to Agent Orange and in this way is again helping our Veterans."
