(LOOGOOTEE) - Indiana State Police are investigating the circumstances behind the death of an 11-month-old child.
According to investigators, the child's babysitter had placed the child into a car seat and buckled the child in. After securing the child in the seat, the babysitter realized that the child needed its diaper changed.
The babysitter unfastened the crotch buckle of the seat, and left the room to get another diaper.
The babysitter told investigators that she was gone from the room for no more than two minutes to retrieve the diaper and stopped to refill a drink for another child and when she returned she found the child had slid down in the seat and had "become asphyxiated by the upper portion of the seat harness".
The babysitter dialed 911 and attempted to perform CPR on the child until first responders arrived. Attempts to save the child failed.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed today. No identities are being released at this time and the case remains under investigation.
