(MITCHELL) - Duke Energy has awarded $5,000 to the Mitchell Community Public Library to help establish a Little Free Library program.
The library plans to install at least 10 units in Marion, Bono, and Spice Valley Townships with a focus on areas that do not have direct access to the library.
Based on the concept of "Take a book, leave a book," the free-standing Little Free Libraries provide a way to share books freely within neighborhoods, on trails, and at other gathering places throughout the community to enhance the quality of life for all citizens, foster fellowship, and promote literacy.
The library will be stocking the structures with books that have been donated by the Friends of The Mitchell Community Public Library and purchased with funds donated by The Duke Energy foundation.
Starting in June, the library will begin taking applications for volunteers who are open to hosting a little free library on their property.
