(SALEM) - Tuesday afternoon, 31-year-old Sherman Skinner of Salem was arrested in connection to the burglary at Nice’s Restaurant in Salem.
He is facing preliminary charges of theft and burglary. Police acted on several tips that were relayed to them via phone and Facebook, which resulted in Skinner's arrest.
On Sunday, at approximately 7 a.m., the Salem Police Department received a call about a burglary at Nice's Family Restaurant. When officers arrived, they found the bottom of the front door had been pried open and someone had entered the building. The cash register containing $256 had been taken.
They were then shown a video of a thin male with a thin beard dressed in a black stripped hoodie and wearing a camouflage hat attempting to open the cash register with a knife and screw driver.
The suspect could be seen on the video retrieving bills from the register with the knife. He then took the cash register and left the building.
While investigating that burglary, officers received a call from a neighboring business, Rex Jackson's Tune Up, reporting it had been burglarized.
A person had entered the building and taken several items, including tools.
Over the past several days, officers investigated the crimes and uncovered evidence which led to Skinner's arrest.
