(SHOALS) - A Shoals man was arrested on drug charges after Indiana State Police were called to a home in the 800 block of Lynnwood Drive to do a welfare check on six children.
Troopers arrived at the home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to investigate the living conditions.
When Trooper Steven Sexton arrived he discovered what was believed to be a Dimethyltryptamine lab, or commonly referred to as a DMT lab.
DMT is a hallucinogen and is made from plants from South America and can be synthesized in a lab to be made into a schedule I controlled substance. The trooper also found hash oil and drug paraphernalia.
The homeowner, 34-year-old Christopher Couchman, was home and arrested. Two other suspects, were not arrested, but police did file a request for warrants Martin County Circuit Court.
The Department of Child Services was called and the six children were relocated as a result of the investigation. No children were present at the time arrest, because all six were in school.
The Indiana State Police Meth Suppression Section believes this may be the first seizure of a DMT lab in Southern Indiana, as its usage is somewhat rare
