(MITCHELL) - Spring Mill State Park is hosting a Welcome Back Weekend, this weekend.
The Village will be staffed and presenting programs throughout both days.
Join the Miller in the Mill and watch him as he grinds corn into meal, on the hour starting at 10 am and running until 4pm. Take a tour with the potter of the pioneer village and find out about the residents and the businesses that flourished there. See the blacksmith creating tools needed daily by the pioneers. Observe the broom maker crafting hand tied brooms. These programs and more will be going on during the event. Check out the bulletin boards throughout the park for programs and times.
At 1 to 3 pm Saturday the Village will be filled with music performed by Donna and Wes Griffin. They have been playing music for more than 25 years throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana. They interpret the musical traditions of the British Isles and Americana, as well as have fun with more contemporary and original music on folk instruments. Donna plays mountain and hammered dulcimers, and concertina. Wes plays mountain dulcimer and guitar
They have performed for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources for more than 17 years in parks and campgrounds all over Southern Indiana. Donna has been an artist-in-residence for the Kentucky Arts Council, Very Special Arts Indiana and the Floyd County Indiana Arts Council, and is a former environmental education resource teacher. Wes worked as an elementary teacher for 27 years and has used the arts throughout his career to motivate and engage his students.
Park admission is $5 per vehicle for in-state residents and $7 per vehicle for out-of-state residents. 2014 Annual Entrance Passes are also available.
