(WASHINGTON) - Washington Fire Department firefighters were called to a house fire on State Road 57 near North Elementary School Monday afternoon.
According to firefighters, the family was not home when the fire started. The home is occupied by Josh Hambick and Dave Hudson, of Petersburg, is the owner.
According to Chief Rhoads eight off-duty firemen were on called to help fight the fires and firefighters were on scene until until 7:07 p.m. Rhoads says the house suffered major damage.
They believe that lightning from Monday's storm may have caused the blaze, the cause remains under investigation.
Police say the storm also cause damage to the roof of the Save A Lot store on East 21st Street.
Cable and power lines were down, along with several trees in several parts of the city, however no major damage or injuries were reported by either Daviess or Martin County Sheriff's Departments.
