(EAST OOLITIC) - Firefighters from Shawswick and Oolitic Volunteer Fire Departments battled an abandoned house fire Thursday night at 210 Mason Street.
According to Shawswick VFD Chief Bob Brown, the owner of the home Larry Randolph's son was at the home about an hour before the fire started, clearing off the property.
"They didn't notice a problem while they were there," Brown says. "They had some problems getting his truck started and then left. I did call the State Fire Marshal to let them know what we had."
Firefighters were called at 9:30 p.m.
"The front porch area of the home was on fire when we arrived," Brown says. "It is hard to determine just how much damage there was. I will be going back out there today to take a look. The home was in pretty bad shape before the fire."
