(BLOOMINGTON) - Three Bloomington firefighters who received “Hometown Heroes” awards for their role in saving a woman’s life last May said there were others who deserve as much recognition as themselves.
Capt. Jerry Sturgeon, the other member of their four-man crew, was not present to accept his Hometown Hero award because he's on vacation.
John Peterson, Daren Combs and Chris Welch were honored Tuesday night during a banquet at KRC Banquets and Catering by the Monroe County Chapter of the American Red Cross, which also gave the Volunteer of the Year Award to Susie Hamilton and the Pat Kingsbury Service Above Self Award to board member Linda Prall.
