(LOOGOOTEE) - The Loogootee School Board approved a deal with former superintendent Larry Weitkamp last week.
Weitkamp will retire, but will be paid the remainder of his contract, $116,323, over five years. The contract also pays for health insurance for an unspecified amount of time.
He was originally due $105,822 by June 2015 from his original contract.
In September 2013, Weitkamp suddenly announced he was leaving as superintendent. No official word was given as to why he resigned. Last month, the board officially appointed Shoals superintendent Joan Keller to the position.
In other business:
The board agreed to sell the old Elementary East building to Hoosier Uplands. The public health group will purchase the building for $110,000 in anticipated closing in March 2015.
Hoosier Uplands is applying for federal and state funding later this year to turn the former elementary school into senior housing. The group has taken former schools in Bedford and Orange County and has turned them into apartments for seniors or low income residents.
