(WASHINGTON) - Washington Police arrested five people after they received a call about suspicious activity and a strange odor in the 500 block of North Meridian Street Tuesday night.
When the officer arrived at the apartment house he opened the screen door and saw the area was filled with smoke and there was a strong chemical odor.
The officer alerted the fire department and secured a search warrant.
Officers arrested five people at the apartment.
* 25-year-old Jesse C. Arnold was charged with manufacturing meth, conspiracy to manufacture meth, possession of precursors and visiting a common nuisance.
* 25-year-old Marcus Wagler was arrested for conspiracy to manufacture meth, manufacturing meth, possession of precursors, and visiting a common nuisance.
* 21-year-old Patience Cross was charged with conspiracy to manufacture meth and visiting a common nuisance.
* 29-year-old Nicole Young was charged with conspiracy to manufacture meth and visiting a common nuisance.
* 19-year-old Haley Burress was charged with visiting a common nuisance.
Burress is free on $2,500 bond. Young, Coss, Arnold and Wagler remained jailed without bond.
26-year-old Chaz Lengacher, who lived at the apartment at 511 N. Meridian, fled the scene when police arrived.
Washington Police Chief Mike Healy says Lengacher is still at large and is wanted for questioning.
At 10:42 p.m., Pam Brooks, reported a vehicle was stolen from her home. It is not known if the two incidents are related.
While the police may be wrapping up the owner of the apartment appears to have some work in front of him. An orange sign was placed on the apartment door by State Police indicating the house had been the site of a meth bust.
"The landlord really suffers when there is a meth operation on his property," says Healy. "With the new law, he now has to demontaminte the place before it can be rented again, and that can be pricey."
