(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell City Council will have a public hearing in conjunction with its regularly scheduled meeting July 7 at City Hall.
The hearing starts at 7 p.m. The council meeting will begin after the hearing concludes.
The Times-Mail reports that the purpose of the public hearing is to discuss the city of Mitchell's opportunity to procure a $400,000 loan to repair the roof at City Hall, remodel the garage area at City Hall to house the police department and to install a generator for the police department.
The city has been discussing the need to finance the project for several months.
The police department is currently downtown on Main Street, but the aging building has mold and water issues that are a health threat. It would cost too much to rehabilitate the downtown building, so the police department will be moved back to City Hall.
As financing has been discussed, the city has hoped to secure a loan through a local financial institution, rather than go through a bond issue.
