(BEDFORD) - Relay for Life with the “Carnival for a Cure” theme begins tonight at 6 p.m. at Parkview track with a dinner for cancer survivors and caregivers.
Nineteen teams will participate in the 12-hour event. Survivors, caregivers and Relay for Life teams will begin making laps around the track at 7 p.m. after Pastor Steve Jones opens the event with prayer and the singing of the national anthem.
The goal is to have someone walking or running on the track for the entire 12 hours.
Starting around 7:30 p.m., teams will take turns in the dunking booth and kids can meet Mickey and Minnie Mouse along with Spider-Man.
For $5, kids can enjoy time in a bouncy house and inflatable slide. They also get to play a game and receive a popsicle. About 9 p.m., the luminarias dedicated to the memory of those who lost their cancer fight will be lighted and a special remembrance lap will take place, along with the release of Chinese lanterns.
During the overnight hours, there will be themed walks and at 1 a.m., teams and walkers can make s'mores.
Relay for Life ends at 6 a.m. Saturday. The goal is to raise about $35,000
