(UNDATED) - Area deputies are warning about two scams.
Residents reported receiving a call from the 323 area code, claiming that the resident had criminal charges pending and unless they settled a debt.
The man making the call spoke with a Middle Eastern accent and would threatened to have officer come to the home to arrest the resident if the debt was not paid.
In a second scam, residents received a letter with a fake check inside claiming that the resident had won a $50,000 raffle.
The letter claims to be from a New York, but has a Canada postmark. The check appears to be from an Idaho company and the bank from Delaware.
The resident is to cash the (fake) check and send back money to cover taxes, which if it was "real" would be a very low amount.
