(EVANSVILLE) - A newly hired doctor at Daviess Community Hospital was arrested Sunday for driving under the influence of prescription drugs.
40-year-old Dr. Samuel Byrd of Vincennes was stopped by Evansville Police near the intersection of Green River Road and Morgan lane after a passerby saw Byrd's vehicle struck two curbs before pulling from a nearby restaurant.
According to police, Byrd did pass a Breathalyzer test, he failed multiple field sobriety tests. He was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
At the jail, Byrd allegedly told officers he had taken a prescription called Propanol earlier that morning.
Officers also found marijuana and arrested Byrd's wife, 38-year-old Tracy Green-Byrd, on a charge of possession of marijuana and public intoxication.
Last week, Daviess Community Hospital announced that Byrd was joining the staff at DCH Medical Clinic. A Washington High School graduate, he also practiced medicine in Evansville and Vincennes before being hired at Daviess Community Hospital.
