(MARTIN CO.) - The Martin County Catholic Churches are now united as one new parish: St. John the Evangelist.
This parish is a combination of the former St. John Parish of Loogootee, St. Martin Parish of Whitfield, St. Joseph Parish in Bramble, and St. Mary Parish in Shoals.
The Very Reverend J. Kenneth Walker, who began as the Martin County pastor in January 2014, will serve as the first pastor for the new St. John the Evangelist parish.
"It's a sadness because their parish is closing, but at the same time, we are helping them to move into their new parish, which in the long run will be able to serve one another," he says.
