(BEDFORD) - Volunteers working on the Milwaukee Trail will not meet in July.
But they are planning work days in August to finish the trail from Lincoln Avenue to Coxton Road.
So far volunteers have completed 16 bridges in the 5.5 miles of trail to Coxton Road. The bridges all now have pedestrian decking.
Projects planned for August include securing parking near trail head, designing the trail head, installation of picnic areas and plants, bike racks and a Milwaukee Trail Limestone Marker and to design and raise donations and construction material for a shelter and a visitor access ramp all at the U Street trail head.
Secure additional signs including maps and information and rules for the trail and the placement and inscribing of limestone mile markers every half mile along the trail, develop a management manual that includes short and long term and on-going maintenance for the trail and construct wing walls at the ends of railings along the trail.
Anyone who would like to volunteer to help with these projects can contact Marcey Phillips at Healthy Balance by calling her at 812-278-0511 or by email at marcey@healthybalancein.com.
Volunteers can also visit Milwaukee Trail on Facebook.
