(BLOOMFIELD) - ProLiteracy, an organization that promotes literacy and learning in adults recently awarded more than $100,000 in National Book Fund Grants to 65 community-based programs nationwide, including the Greene County Literacy Coalition in Bloomfield.
The company believes that when adults are given the opportunity to learn to read, write, do basic math, and use computers they have a better chance of lifting themselves out of poverty by finding and maintaining steady employment.
The Literacy Coalition works to recruit and train tutors for individuals, churches, businesses, social services as well as public libraries to help individuals who are 18 years of age and older living in Greene County who are not already enrolled in any other learning service.
Tutors offer assistance with GED preparation, reading, writing, basic math, living skills, and English as a second language.
Students can work at their own pace with tutors who provide materials to match student's specific needs.
