(BLOOMINGTON) - A substance abuse program that’s helped more than 11,000 Hoosiers struggling with addiction has been cut off from funding by the federal government.
The program was available to Monroe County residents.
According to a Fox59 report, the Access to Recovery program will cease to exist when federal funding dries up at the end of the year.
The program was created when Indiana and 29 other states received money from the federal government in 2010. Since then, Indiana has received $3.3 million in funding per year, according to the Family and Social Services Administration.
States had to apply again for funding recently, and only six were chosen.
Since 2010, Access to Recovery has helped people struggling with addiction pay for treatment, medical expenses, search for jobs, and more everyday things like transportation passes, vehicle repairs, clothing purchases and personal hygiene items.
Access to Recovery has already stopped accepting new clients.
