(BEDFORD) - Former Thornton Memorial Boys Club Director and Lawrence County Veterans Service Officer Bill Baker was presented with a Sagamore of the Wabash award by State Sen. Brent Steele Thursday night during the Bedford Chamber’s annual banquet at the Lawrence County 4-H Expo Hall.
The honorary award is the highest tribute a governor can bestow upon a Hoosier citizen.
Baker spent a lifetime mentoring boys at the Thornton Memorial Boys Club before shifting to the courthouse to assist local veterans.
Many of those same boys he helped at the Boys Club, fought in Vietnam, and Baker was there to help them when they returned.
