(GREENE CO.) - Greene County General Hospital will host an Indiana Blood Center blood drive from noon to 4 p.m. today.
Administrative Assistant/ Marketing Coordinator Halea Franklin explained that IBC has chosen select blood drives taking place between today and Sept. 1 to be entered into a raffle for a pair of Colts vs. Patriots field-level VIP tickets for their Sunday night football game on Nov. 16.
The blood drive today must have 28 donors in order to be eligible for the raffle. If it meets that goal and wins the drawing, GCGH will hold another raffle for the people who donate today and give the tickets to the person whose name is selected.
The Bloodmobile will be parked outside of the hospital on the south side of the building.
Franklin says that everyone who donates blood walks away a winner, though, because each pint can help up to three people.
"Someone needs blood every two seconds. Every minute, patients use more than 36 units of blood or blood products and that equals out to about 40,000 units of blood a day in the United States-so just one donation is huge," she stressed, adding that it only takes about 45 minutes to donate.
Individuals may donate whole blood every 56 days, and the IBC needs 550 donors each day to meet the needs of the more than 60 hospitals they serve, including GCGH.
